Financial Fields Automation
Valto partnered with Brookbanks to automate and enhance project financial reporting by integrating Dovico timesheet and expense data into Microsoft Dataverse. The project delivers real-time visibility of Client Costs, Third Party Costs, and Work In Progress (WIP), enabling informed decision-making through seamless data flows and robust reporting tools.
Project Overview
Brookbanks required an automated and scalable solution to gain deeper insights into project financials, including real-time tracking of internal and external costs. I delivered a custom integration between Dovico and Microsoft Dataverse using Power Platforms, ensuring a single source of truth for timesheet and financial data.
Key Features
-
Automated Client & Third Party Cost Retrieval
Daily Dataflows retrieve and populate project costs directly from the Dovico API, ensuring up-to-date financial data with no manual entry. -
Historical WIP Tracking
Power Automate captures cost and WIP changes over time in a dedicated reporting table, integrated with Power BI for monthly performance tracking. -
Timesheet Import with Pagination
Robust Dataflows import and link timesheet entries to projects in Dataverse, handling large datasets with Dovico's pagination and OAuth security. -
Seamless User Experience
All imported data is surfaced in model-driven Power Apps, making it easily accessible for project managers and financial stakeholders.
Benefits
- Reduced manual effort and risk of errors
- Centralised, real-time financial data
- Scalable architecture ready for future enhancements
- Enhanced project visibility and forecasting accuracy
Challenges & Solutions
Designing a robust architecture to automate complex financial calculations without compromising data integrity Handling large volumes of timesheet data with API pagination and rate limits Ensuring seamless integration and real-time updates between Dovico and Dataverse Maintaining read-only compliance and secure authentication throughout the platform Implementing historical tracking for audit and reporting needs without affecting system performance
