Mobile

Use the Claude app on iOS and Android to start cloud sessions, run projects, steer a session on your own computer with Remote Control, or message Dispatch a task.

There is no separate Claude Code mobile app. The regular Claude app for iOS and Android (including iPad, using the iOS app) has a Code tab, and that is your remote control for Claude Code. Nothing runs on the phone itself: it connects you to sessions running in the cloud or on your own computer.

My most common use is simple. I start a cloud task before I leave the office, then answer its one clarifying question from the train and review the pull request when I get home.

Getting set up

  1. Install the Claude app. Search for Claude in the App Store or Google Play. Shortcut: run /mobile (or /ios, /android) in a Claude Code session to show a QR code that opens the right store.
  2. Sign in with the same claude.ai account and organisation you use for Claude Code. Cloud sessions and Remote Control need a claude.ai account, so a Console API key or a third-party provider such as Amazon Bedrock will not work here.
  3. Open the Code tab. Tap Code in the app's navigation to see your sessions, or open claude.ai/code/new on the phone to start one. If there is no Code tab, your plan or organisation may not include it; check feature availability.

Four ways to work from your phone

The app is the same in every case; what differs is where the work runs.

OptionConnects toChoose it when
Cloud sessionsA session on cloud infrastructure (Anthropic-managed by default)The repo is on GitHub and the task should carry on after you pocket the phone. Set up with the web quickstart
ProjectsA coordinating conversation running parallel threadsYou have a stream of related work and want to see what finished and what needs you
Remote ControlA Claude Code session on your computerThe task needs your local files, tools or MCP servers
DispatchThe desktop app on your computerYou want to message a task and let Dispatch decide how to run it (Pro and Max only)

If your computer will be switched off, use a cloud session or a project. Remote Control and Dispatch drive your own machine, so it needs to stay on with Claude Code or the desktop app running. If it sleeps during a Remote Control session, it reconnects when it wakes.

Cloud sessions and Remote Control live in the Code tab; Dispatch is a task you message in the app. Platforms compares all the away-from-desk options.

Cloud sessions

From the Code tab, choose a repository and branch, describe the task and submit. The session runs in the cloud and syncs across devices: start on your laptop and review on your phone, or the other way round.

Open a session to check progress, answer questions or change direction. You can also ask Claude to watch a pull request and fix CI failures and review comments as they come in (auto-fix). See Claude Code on the web for everything cloud sessions can do, and cloud environments for network access, variables and setup scripts.

Remote Control of a local session

Execution and file access stay on your computer while you steer from the phone. On the computer, run claude remote-control, or /remote-control inside an open session. Then either scan the QR code the terminal can show, or open the app, tap Code and pick the session from the list.

Attachments from the app reach the local session:

  • Photos are seen by Claude directly. Claude Code also saves each one under ~/.claude/uploads/ and tells Claude the path, so it can copy the image into files it creates (handy for "use this photo of the whiteboard as the hero image").
  • Other files are downloaded to your machine and passed to Claude as @ references.

Requirements, modes and troubleshooting are on the Remote Control page.

Push notifications

With Remote Control active, Claude can push to your phone, usually when a long task finishes or it needs a decision. You can ask for one explicitly: "notify me when the build finishes". Turn them on with two toggles in /config; delivery tips are in Remote Control.

Dispatch sends its own notification when a Code session it spawned finishes or needs approval.

Limitations

  • Terminal-only commands such as /plugin and /resume do not work from the app. Remote Control lists the commands that do and how they behave.
  • Permission modes. Cloud sessions offer Accept edits, Plan and Auto; Remote Control sessions offer Manual, Accept edits, Plan and Auto. Bypass permissions cannot be selected from the app. See permission modes for when Auto is available.
  • Dispatch needs Pro or Max and is not on Team or Enterprise.
